International Biology Olympiad (IBO)

Home / IBO

The International Biology Olympiad (IBO) started in 1990. It is an annual event open to pre-university students. It serves as a benchmark for biology education at the higher secondary school level. India started participating in IBO from the year 2000. Students of Std. 9th onwards can take part.

The Biology Olympiad program follows the following 5 stages

Stage I: National Standard Examination in Biology (NSEB)

NSEB is the first stage of selection of students in the Biology Olympiad Programme. The examination is being organized by the Indian Association of Physics Teachers (IAPT). It is compulsory for every student to enroll for the NSEB examination in order to appear in the examination.

ALLEN’s NSEB Workshop

In this workshop we give in-depth knowledge of syllabus and major topics Biology of class 11th and 12th (NCERT). Experts Faculties for International Olympiads provide training to students as per syllabus of NSEB. We conduct Mock test and provide solutions to last year question paper for better practice.

Stage II: Indian National Biology Olympiad (INBO)

NSEB is the stepping stone for all the INBO. NSEB is conducted in order to reach out the maximum number of deserving students in Biology from across the country. The Questions and problems to be attempted in National Olympiads are usually non-conventional and of high difficulty level, comparable to International Olympiads. Only 35 students will be chosen for OCSC. If there is tie at the last position, all students with the same marks at the last position will qualify for OCSC at the respective level.

Stage III: Orientation cum Selection Camp (OCSC) in Biology

  • HBCSE organizes OCSC in biology sometime in the month of April to June  for 2-3 weeks. Those candidates who have successfully qualified the merit list of Stage II (INBO) are eligible for OCSC. Prior to this, there is no other criterion or provision for entrance into OCSC.
  • About the Orientation cum Selection Camp (OCSC)
  • One goes through several theoretical and experimental tests in the camp
  • Orientation is provided to the students especially dring experiments
  • The camps end with a valedictory function where well-known scientists are invited to articulate to the students
  • The merit list of OCSC is prepared on the basis of theoretical and experimental scores
  • The total weightage for the theory is 60%, while 40% weightage is given to the experiment

Allen's BOOT Camp (ABC) :

We conduct residential workshop (ABC) at Kota and our Subject Experts provide rigorous training to students qualified in INBO for OCSC Biology and prepare them for theoretical and Practical tasks. We have well designed Laboratories to prepare students for the practical training.

Stage IV

Pre-departure Training Camp (PDT) for IBO,
The selected 4 member Indian team undergoes a rigorous training programme at HBCSE in theory and experiments at PDT camp.

Stage V

Participation in International Biology Olympiad (IBO).
The 4 member student team, 2 teacher leaders and 1 scientific observer constitute the delegation to represent India at the International Biology Olympiad (IBO).
